This website is the personal blog and photography portfolio of Stephen Battey. I have never really been good at writing these things. I’m going to try to do my best to explain what this site is all about.
About
This is a blog and portfolio! Here you will find journal entries about things that I find interesting, uninteresting, absurd…you name it. Oh, and pictures too! This website is my medium for expressing my views on things and displaying my artwork.
Everything on this website is made by me unless I state otherwise. That being said, if you want to use something from this website be sure to ask me beforehand. Also, if I do grant you permission, I will expect a mention with a link back here somewhere near the content. (AKA, no bullshit credit on some obscure page of your website – depending on the type of use this may be open to discussion.) If you choose to take something without asking, I won’t be happy about it. Just ask, I am not a mean person.
If you’re going to quote me, go for it but don’t misquote me. I don’t really have any credentials either, so you probably shouldn’t quote me in anything that requires the use of APA, MLA, or the Chicago Manual of Style. Seriously.
History
This blog began on a whim. One day I decided I wanted to get back into blogging and this is the result. Prior to Battey.me, I had been blogging since 2002. I took a long hiatus and am now back in the habit. This blog was originally hosted on HostGator and then moved to LaughingSquid after that. Both LaughingSquid and HostGator were excellent web hosts, and I would recommend either one of them for your hosting needs. Battey.me is registered with GoDaddy – I would not recommend GoDaddy – their CEO hunted and killed an elephant, and then showed no remorse for doing it. It will be transferred to Namecheap soonish.
Currently this blog is hosted on a dedicated Mac Mini web server. Battey.me moved onto this dedicated server in October of 2011. The server is collocated with Mac Mini Vault, and I would highly recommend their service. This guide was extremely valuable when setting up my server.
Statistics
This blog consists of 211 entries, 41 comments, and 24 pages. In those entries 63,713 words are written.
Tools
The tools I use include Flow, WordPress, Photoshop CS5, Lightroom 3, and Aperture 3. All of these tools come together in conjunction with each other to help me produce much of the content that will be found on this blog. I also use iStat and Pingdom to monitor my web server remotely, as well as Prompt to connect to my server away from my home computer.
This blog is powered by OS X, PHP, Apache, and MySQL. My e-mail is handled by Google Apps. Backups are done with Amazon S3.
Will you provide me with “insert web service here”?
Nope. Dedicated servers are hard enough to maintain with only my own websites on them, I can’t be expected to worry about someone else’s. That being said, drop me an e-mail and I will gladly help you find whatever service you need.
Archives
You can find my blog archives below. These are complete from the last time I nuked my blog – which was in October of 2010, as you can see. Everything before that is gone. Sorry. Believe me when I tell you, I’ve tried to get those posts back.
