Art is expensive.

Supplies for art classes are pricey. I was happy to discover that none of the art classes at TCC have required books, but I learned today why that is. Both of my classes have huge supply lists. The paper alone for my photography class is going to run upwards of 150 dollars. The partial printmaking kit for my printmaking class was 41 dollars. I feel like this is going to be a very expensive quarter for me.

Printmaking seems really interesting, but I can already tell it is going to be very time consuming. My professor told us that printing can take hours, and that we may have to spend a lot of time out of class working on projects. I am excited to start learning new things, even if they aren’t all that useful in the long run. I am excited to learn a lot of new things, it is going to give me a lot of material to write about I think.

Photography looks like it will be fun. I found out today that my college’s bookstore sells the film we need for the class, and some photo paper as well. I might pick some up tomorrow or thursday to tide me over until I can make a larger order of film and photo paper. There is only one store in my area where this stuff can be purchased, and apparently it is a bit over priced. My photography teacher seems to like the more expensive stuff. I am still debating whether or not I should go with the more expensive film or the cheaper stuff. I will definitely go with the more expensive paper, he mentioned that it makes a huge difference in the end result of the photo.

I have a busy week ahead of me already. I have to get 36 square inches of linoleum for printmaking, and two rolls of film and paper for photography before thursday. I have to get this stuff on top of the things I already need for both of these classes. I am happy that I am getting paid tonight. I knew there would be some expenses for these classes, but I had no idea they would be so high – I am essentially paying for photography twice. At least it will be fun.
